Redgrove City

In 2013, US scientists stationed in Redgrove City invented a vaccine for AIDs. The vaccine was supplied to the unaffected populace almost immediately. Even with a sufficient amount of testing prior to mass-release, the vaccine had... unforeseen side effects.

The results were only apparent in the next generation. A small percentage of children conceived by mothers carrying the antibodies became mutated. Certain strings of otherwise inactive, and rare genes became active, causing unusual mutations. Of these mutations, some brought superhuman abilities. Others activated docile DNA from reptiles, amphibians, or other mammals, resulting in bestial appearance and bestial abilities.

The year is 2056, 43 years, and approximately two generations from the discovery and administration of the vaccine. While the world is slowly growing accustomed to the new race of human beings, they are still far from accepted.
